What is the FSSAI registration/licensing process?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body that reports to the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is in control of protecting and promoting public health by regulating and supervising food safety. To obtain a food license, business operators must complete the FSSAI registration or fssai license for the milk products process.

FSSAI registration is a 14-digit registration number or a food license number that must be printed on food packages or displayed in retail establishments. This 14-digit FSSAI license number contains information on the producer’s permit or enrollment details, as well as the state.

Dairy units, like milk chilling units, must register with the FSSAI. 

  • Handling, production, manufacturing, packing, storage, distribution, and transportation of milk and milk products are all examples of dairy processing.
  • Without a license, one cannot trade in Milk or Milk products under the Food Safety and Standard Act of 2006 (FSSAI act) and This is also intended to ensure the availability of wholesome, high-quality, and healthy milk and milk-based products for human use in accordance with scientific guidelines.
  • As a result, any Food Business Operator dealing in Dairy Units, including Milk Chilling Units qualified to perform or process in India must be licensed or registered with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
  • Until a product may sell in the market, it must meet all of the specifications and regulations set out by the relevant authority.
  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the apex authority in the process of setting standards and guidelines that must be followed by food business operators.

Dairy unit registration documents required by the FSSAI

FSSAI registration / fssai license for milk products includes the following basic documents.

 The food business owner’s photo identity.

  • Proof of full possession of the property (eg. Rental Agreement).
  • A Certificate of Incorporation or a Partnership Deed.
  • To be concerned with is a list of food items (both inputs and the final menu).
  • A well-thought-out food safety management plan.

The documentation required for FSSAI registration of a dairy unit’s production unit.

  • The processing unit’s blueprint/layout plan
  • Directors’ list of complete addresses and phone numbers (mandatory for companies only).
  • The number, installed size, and horsepower of the equipment and machinery, as well as their names and descriptions.
  • To confirm the potability of water to be used as an ingredient in food, a recognized/public health laboratory
  • and must provide an analysis report (chemical and bacteriological) (mandatory only for manufacturing and processing units only).
  • Possession of the premises must prove. (Sale deed, lease agreement, electric charge, and so on.)
  • In the case of cooperatives, a copy of the certificate obtained under the Coop Act of 1861/Multi-State Coop Act of 2002 is needed (wherever applicable). and the Partnership Deed/Self Declaration for Proprietorship/Memorandum & Articles of Association.
  • In the case of Milk and Products processing units, the source of milk or a milk procurement plan,
  • including the location of a milk collection center, requires (wherever applicable)
  •  Form IX: A Company’s Nomination of Persons, as well as the Board Resolution.
  • Proprietor/Partner/Director(s)/Authorized Signatory must have a photo I.D. and address proof provided by the government authority.
