The Steam skin client is working hard with the most beautiful pleasing app in any sense of the word. It is slow to start, and navigation is not the greatest. You can not speed it up, but you can take some of the horrors out of it if you how to install Steam skins.
Finding the Steam Skins:
Skins of Steam are like themes for Windows 10 or skins of Minecraft. There are more independent places where you can find Steam skins. A fair, well-built Steam skin has quite a few files and folders to download the zip files. Thus, it is up to you to find something which looks nice. For this article, we are going with the famous Metro for Steam skin.
Installing a Steam skin
Download the steam skin you want to install and extract it. Once removed, it is good to look at the folder from that the skin extract. These names will dictate the name the skin will appear within Steam’s settings. If it is not user-friendly, change it to where it is similar.
Once selected, you need to paste the folder inside the steam Skins folder. Many people install Steam to their Windows drive, which is usually the C drive, while others choose to install it for one of the other purposes on the system. Find the Steam folder on your PC and open it. Inside the folder, you will find a folder name called ‘Skins’ then, Open it.
If you have never installed a Steam skin, these folders will be empty to save for a text file. Then paste the extract skin folder here to paste the entire folder into the Skins folder instead of copying the files from it.
Open Steam skin and go to the Steam menu, select Settings on the Settings window, select the Interface tab where you available from the dropdown under ‘Select the skin you wish Steam to use.’ Select the skin just added to the Skins folder and restart the Steam when you are to prompt.
When Steam skin relaunches, it will be with the new skin, where I mentioned earlier that a fair Steam skin would have quite a few files and folders. If you install a coat and some parts of the Steam client are still using the old UI, or something does not look right if it is reasonable that the skin developer has not improved that particular part of the Steam UI. You can also try using a different skin or see if you can make do with the one you have if it is not missing anything too critical.
How to modify the Steam skins on Mac OS
- In the web browser, head to SteamSkins.org on the website.
- On the website, find the skin where you need it. You can search for steam skins or sort them by category. Click its title that has to show its information on the pages.
- From the bottom of the skins information page, click on the “Direct Download” link will download either as a .zip or .rar file on a computer.
- Double-click on the file you downloaded, and your Mac will automatically extract all the files and place them in a single folder.
- In the new Finder window, press Command + Shift + G. These will open a menu asking toward a path paste ~/library/application support/steam/steam.app bundle/steam/contents/MacOS/skins into the text box and click “Go.”
- These will open with the Steam Skins folder. Drag and drop the folder where you extracted back in Step 4 into this Skins folder.
- Open Steam, or restart it if it is already open. Once it’s available, click the word “Steam” in the menu bar and select “Preferences…” from the dropdown list.
- Select the “Interface” from the sidebar on the left.
- Open the dropdown list labelled with “Select the skin as you wish Steam to use” and select the new skin. Click “OK” at behind of the window.
- Steam will ask you to restart. Select “Restart Steam.”
